Measles and whooping cough have become more common in Chuvashia. Most often unvaccinated people get sick. This was reported in the press service Rospotrebnadzor of Chuvashia.

60 residents of Chuvashia fell ill with measles in 2023. Of this number, 44 cases are children and 16 people are adults. In the Komsomolsky, Cheboksary, Alatyr districts one case was registered, in the Urmara district – two cases, in Cheboksary – 53 cases. 21 of the sick people are representatives of the Roma population. Since the beginning of 2023, 28 family outbreaks of measles have been identified, without spread. Most often people who get sick are those who have not been vaccinated – 51 cases. The main reasons for non-vaccination are related to refusals to vaccinate – 64.7%. Also, the sick people did not have a measles vaccination due to age, this applies to children under one year old (5.9%), and for other reasons (29.4%).

Whooping cough is another disease that spreads mainly among unvaccinated residents of Chuvashia. In 2023, 130 cases of this disease were reported. The incidence rate exceeded the long-term average level by 6.9 times. Children most often suffer from whooping cough – 128 cases; two cases were registered among adults. At the same time, among children under one year old there were 27 cases, 1-2 years old – 12 cases, 3-6 years old – 16 cases, 7-14 years old – 60 cases, 15-17 years old – 13 cases.

In the Komsomolsky, Morgaushsky, Shemurshinsky, Yadrinsky districts there was one case of the disease, in the Yantikovsky district, Shumerlya and Alatyr – two cases each, in the Kozlovsky district – three cases, in the Batyrevsky district – five, in Kanash – seven, in the Cheboksary district – eight , in Novocheboksarsk – 28 and in Cheboksary – 69 cases. Among those who fell ill with whooping cough, 99 people were not vaccinated against this disease. Most often, people simply refuse vaccination – 56.3%. Another 30.3% of the sick were with medical supplies, and 13.4% were unvaccinated due to their age (children under three months).

Scarlet fever has also become more common in Chuvashia. In 2023, 358 cases of the disease were reported, and in 2022, 218 cases. The figure is 1.7 times higher.

In addition to common diseases, residents of the republic suffer from animal bites. There were 2,833 cases reported in 2023, an increase of 6.3% from the number of bites in 2022. Most often, animals bite adults – 1955 cases, children were bitten 878 times. There were also 48 cases of wild animal bites reported.
