Flea collars
Flea collars, drops and sprays for pets contain large quantities of poisonous species that are already banned in the agricultural sector.
For example, the dose of Fipronil recommended for the treatment of dogs and cats is up to 250,000 times higher than the acceptable daily human intake in the European Union. But the mosquito repellent DEET also contains many substances that are harmful to humans.
Dangerous for children and pregnant women
“We have sent a letter to nearly five hundred veterinary practices and clinics requesting that they take their responsibility and immediately advise against chemical anti-flea, lice and tick agents for the treatment of small pets, but alternative means,” said the Dutch branch of PAN.
“These drugs are especially dangerous with regard to pregnant women, toddlers and small children.”
“The highly effective insecticides are approved under hundreds of different brand names, in different combinations and in very high levels as veterinary medicine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and in the Netherlands by the Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) for the treatment of dogs and cats. . “
