In anticipation of the national vaccination program, care organization Meander has already been able to vaccinate 200 of its 1,200 home care workers themselves.

This was possible by being economical with the vaccines that were available to the residents. Home care workers were initially going to be vaccinated in January, but were put on the waiting list because the order of vaccination was changed in the meantime.
Prick sparingly
During the vaccination of the residents, measurements were taken, but the test was taken according to the guidelines of the GGD. This allowed Meander to get six doses from each ampoule instead of five. After all residents were vaccinated, there were 200 doses left. In consultation with the GGD, Meander has already vaccinated some of his staff in home care.
Imminent overload
According to Chairman of the Board Jack Jansen of MeanderGroep, this was desperately needed. He believes that home care staff should be vaccinated as soon as possible. Employees are at risk of becoming overburdened by the high level of absenteeism: 170 Meander home care employees are currently sick at home. In addition, home care workers are potential spreaders of the coronavirus, because they visit many people.
Back at the back again
Jansen criticizes the protection of home care workers: “In March 2020, Meander, together with several care partners in the region, took the initiative to start the first Corona Center in the Netherlands in Urmond, in order to relieve home care. Subsequently, insufficient protective means appeared to be available to to effectively protect homecare workers and Meander himself searched for resources on the market. And now we are back in line to protect our employees, while a new overload threatens. We are almost forced to take control ourselves “.
Invitation
According to Meander, home care staff can ‘receive an invitation at any time’ to be vaccinated, but for chairman of the board Jack Jansen it cannot go fast enough. How quickly that vaccination will take place depends in part on the availability of vaccines.
