“Our job is to cook. No pedaling, ”smiles Hermann Cadiou. After having “hacked” a home delivery service during the containment against the Covid-19, this restaurant owner from Niort (Deux-Sèvres) launched an idea this winter: why not entrust this mission to local delivery people, excluding platforms like Uber or Deliveroo?
Broadcast on social networks, his message found an unexpected echo. Three young people, quickly helped by several local players in the social and solidarity economy, decided to take up this challenge by creating Les Coursiers niortais, a cooperative production company. This Scop started its activity on May 21st.
“We risk having heavy legs at the end of the week,” smiles, motivated as never before, Adam Cordier, 26, co-founder of Coursiers Niortais with Jérémie Boyer, 25, and Carl Durepaire, 35. Our goal is not to generate profits at all costs but to create stable jobs. “
“We can also deliver orders from other businesses”
The originality of this project lies in the help provided by ten local restaurateurs. Gathered around Hermann Cadiou, they founded an association, Les Restos niortais, to support these couriers and entrust them with all their orders. “The competition between delivery people induced by the large platforms did not suit us. We wanted to apply our solution and our ethics – fresh, seasonal products and short circuits – to this activity, ”says the entrepreneur.
Adam Cordier, who had previously been looking for a job, is already working on the development of the Scop: “Outside of catering hours, we can also deliver orders from other businesses, dispatched in less than an hour. “
