Car enthusiast Greg Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia has put up for sale a “military” Mercedes-Benz 300E in the style of the 1960s series Rat Patrol. It appears in the ad under the name ME43.
The master worked on his project for 37 years and actually made the car from two Mercedes. According to his own information, he installed a 300E (W124) body with a dead engine and a good interior on the chassis of a broken ML430.
To create a military image, the master used parts from various Mercedes-Benz models and from other cars. One of the main touches is a replica MG42 machine gun on the roof. Its barrel is actually the Mercedes-Benz ML steering column, the housing is the ignition lock, the belt is the timing chain, and the fillers are injectors. An ammunition box is mounted on the passenger side fender.
The odd hood spoiler is a spoiler from a 16 valve model Mercedes-Benz 190E. The headlights are also borrowed from cars of the brand. Even more noticeable on the road is the ME43’s century-old steam whistle, supplied with air from an air compressor in the trunk.
The salon is almost entirely original. Although there are borrowed details from other cars. For example, the dashboard is taken from ML. On the center console there is a button for controlling the gearbox. The price is only 4,500 dollars, which is equal to a little over 8,000 BGN.
In addition to the “military” ME43, the craftsman has a modified Jeep Cherokee in his collection, which he turns into a pickup truck with Wrangler taillights. It also brings together a pair of first-generation Ford Bronco SUVs.
