McLaren has admitted that the 750S will likely be the last V8 supercar to feature a “pure” petrol V8. In doing so, the company will follow in the footsteps of other supercar manufacturers, including Lamborghini and Ferrari. The new 750S practically shows us an evolution of the 720S, which by all accounts will be the last of its kind.
“I’ll never officially commit to it, but I think it will probably be the last non-electrified production V8 to be compliant around the global combustion rules,” he tells Car Sales. “We’d love to keep doing it because there’s something special about internal combustion engines and there’s a market for them. We like it and I think the customers like it.”
“Hybridization has huge advantages and that’s why we did it with the P1 10 years ago and more recently with the Artura,” adds Sanderson. “The 750S is just a very pure experience of internal combustion and I think it’s one of the best interpretations of it. If not the best. We’ve clearly decided to explore every powertrain option and we’re really trying to find what engages the drivers.”
