McLaren F1 team boss Zak Brown has suggested a possible change in power unit maker to keep the team open for 2026. The FIA recently confirmed that six F1 power unit suppliers exist for him: Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull Ford, Alpine Racing, Audi and Honda.
Zak Brown is said to be in contact with Honda about a potential partnership for 2026, but RacingNews365.com says General Motors will be in preliminary contact with Cadillac if it enters as an F1 power unit supplier in 2026. He also made it clear that he was in talks. At the launch of the MCL60, Brown confirmed that McLaren is assessing its options for the next few years before the regulation changes. “We are very happy with Mercedes, we have time to decide what we want to do after 2026,” said Brown. “I think it’s exciting for Formula 1 to have so many manufacturers entering the sport. I think it shows growth and excitement. “Andrea and I are slowly looking into it. No, I’m very happy with Mercedes, so we’ll have to see what happens after next year and then make a decision.”
