Lewis Hamilton did not have a super season in Formula 1 this year. The British Mercedes driver did finish third in the world championship, but a number of other drivers made a greater impression. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella no longer sees Hamilton as one of the best drivers in the field.
Many drivers made a good impression this year in the premier class of motorsport. Max Verstappen was in top form and Fernando Alonso showed that he can still be very strong in his old age. McLaren’s young drivers also performed well. Lando Norris was allowed to climb the podium several times and debutant Oscar Piastri was also introduced to the podium of honor.

McLaren team boss Andrea Stella is proud of his drivers. However, Stella makes a striking choice when asked which drivers would stand out above the rest if everyone drove the same car. In conversation with DAZN, he does not mention the name of seven-time world champion Hamilton: “My top three if they would use the same cars consists of Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso.”

Stella does not mention the name of his own driver Oscar Piastri. The team boss states that the young Australian can pose a challenge for Alonso: “Oscar has a lot of talent and I would also say that he is intelligent. His brain capacity is simply very high. He has interesting character traits, I would say that he is really calm. Lando is already one of the best drivers in the field. He is very fast, good in the race and he is good at managing the tires.”
