McIlroy to play all three recovery tournaments

World No.1 Rory McIlroy announced Thursday that he intends to take part in the first three tournaments organized by the North American circuit (PGA) since the end of the season due to the coronavirus.

These tournaments will take place in June, behind closed doors. “I believe the PGA has a very solid (security) policy in place, and, if they can apply it, I feel comfortable going back there,” said the four-time winner, Northern Ireland. Grand Slam.

Rory McIlroy will be at Forth Worth in Texas from June 11 to 14, to compete in the Charles Schwab Challenge. He also plans to participate in the Heritage Classic in South Carolina (June 18-21) and the Travelers Championship (June 25-28) near Hartford (Connecticut).

Among the protocols implemented by the PGA, tests for the coronavirus will be mandatory, before the players leave for the tournament site and upon their arrival. They will also have to submit to a daily temperature measurement and answer a health questionnaire.

“If you take the necessary precautions – wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, disinfect frequently, practice social distancing – I really think it is possible,” added the 31-year-old golfer.

For now, the redesigned calendar of the circuit includes major events such as the PGA Championship in August, the US Open and the Ryder Cup in September, as well as the Augusta Masters in early November.
