Since it was announced that Mike Tyson will return to the ring for a fight against Jake Paul next July, critical voices about this event have not ceased.
And someone who recently spoke out about it is John Kavanagh, prominent MMA coach which, among others, has guided Conor McGregor to success.
Brobible echoes the statements of the also director of SBG Ireland during his talk on The MMA Hour, where He said ‘Iron Mike’ shouldn’t fight anymoremuch less against the YouTube star.
“I don’t know if there’s a wink and a nod behind the scenes,” Kavanagh began.
«Will Tyson be 60, 58 years old? Full force blows to the head at 58. No, not a good idea, no matter who you are.. You don’t need to do that. If it was some kind of exhibition and they were training, great. Because I was asked not necessarily just about Mike, but about this kind of YouTube boxing stuff, and my opinion now, instead of being snobbish, is thatI love anything that gets more kids involved in sports.. Great if it’s combat sports, boxing, mixed martial arts, whatever the case may be. And if Jake Paul is doing a good job filling local boxing gyms, that’s a little bit of what we’re trying to do, brilliant.
Kavanagh insists that,In the case of Tyson, age should be a limitto return to the ring, especially since his rival is less than half his age and has knocked out other rivals, soThe fight could get ugly for the boxing legend.
«I’m not interested in everything he’s doing, particularly in that fight; I don’t think someone approaching 60 should fight (…) It seems that Jake hits hard, he’s knocked out some guys. So I just hope that it is what it is, that it is something entertaining, and that they move around the ring and train. As long as that’s it, approved,” he stated his position.
Mike Tyson’s return to the ring to fight Jake Paul will take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas and will stream live on Netflix.
