The significant price increases do not deter McDonald’s fans from getting a quick bite there. All hamburgers, salads and happy meals sold generated a worldwide profit of 2.1 billion euros for the fast food company.
The crowds in the restaurants came as a surprise to McDonald’s, the company said at the presentation of its quarterly figures. The fast food company warned last summer of a slowdown in growth. But the economic headwind is not yet so strong that the hamburger chain is suffering much from it.
Due to the economic uncertainty, McDonald’s said goodbye to hundreds of employees through a reorganization earlier this year. That cost the restaurant chain about 25 million euros. Ultimately, this saves the company money because fewer employees work.
McDonald’s said it benefited from successful advertising campaigns and home delivery of more orders. As a result, turnover increased by 11 percent last quarter to 6.3 billion dollars (5.9 billion euros).
Bottom line, McDonald’s retained a profit of 2.2 billion euros. That is a growth of 14 percent compared to the same period last year.
