Guangdong. While most people are happy to be able to eat their burger in peace, McDonald’s China is now offering a curious alternative: customers in two branches will be able to eat their burgers in the future – and at the same time kick off the calories on an exercise bike. With 35 million views in five days, a video made the rounds on Tiktok that shows a woman pedaling hard while she is eating a burger and having a drink. McDonald’s calls the bikes “Green Charging Bikes”.
The aspect of working off the calories while eating is not mentioned in official information. Rather, it is about the environment and sustainability. Like McDonald’s China in one Message announced on the occasion of the opening of a new store in southern Guangdong Province, the wheels are designed to promote a low-carbon and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
The wheels are made from recycled plastic. The energy gained by cycling can be used directly to charge smartphones or other devices. There are currently ten such bicycles in one branch each in Guangdong and Shanghai.
