McDonald’s IT System Malfunction Leads to Ordering Issues: Customers Frustrated and Restaurants Close

The McDonald’s restaurant chain suffered a malfunction in the information technology (IT) system in some of its restaurants, leaving customers unable to order food, according to the Independent newspaper.

Yesterday morning (Friday), customers in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Japan complained on social media about problems while trying to buy meals from the fast food giant.

Some customers said that restaurants were accepting cash only and that orders were written by hand on paper.

Others reported that they were able to order successfully through the McDonald’s application, but they were unable to actually place orders inside the restaurants.

McDonald’s explained that it is aware of the technical problem and is working to solve it. She pointed out that the problems are not related to a cyber attack.

In Japan, the company apologized to customers on social media and said they may need to “wait a while” for the issues to be resolved. She described the matter as a “system failure.”

In the United Kingdom, a number of customers said on social media that the chain’s restaurants were closed, although they were able to place orders through the app.

A company spokesperson explained: “We are aware of the technological outage that affected our restaurants.”

The spokesman added: “The issue is not related to cybersecurity.” This incident sparked ridicule from the competing chain, Burger King.
