McD Fans, ‘Flying’ Profit Becomes IDR 32 T Due to BTS Meal

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Fast food company from the United States (US) McDonald’s on Wednesday (28/7/2021) reported its profit bookkeeping in the second quarter of 2021 (Q2 2021) globally. Unmitigated, the printed profit reached US$ 2.22 billion or Rp 32.1 trillion. While Q1-2021 only recorded a profit of US $ 1.54 billion.

Quotes CNBC International, McDonald said that during this period net sales rose 57 percent to US$ 5.89 billion (Rp 85.3 trillion). This exceeded expectations of US$ 5.6 billion (Rp 81.1 trillion).

Geographically, in the US store sales were up 25.9% in the quarter. Meanwhile outside the US, McDonald’s has had a strong recovery in many areas. The internationally operated market segment, which includes the UK and France, reported a 75.1% growth in store sales compared to last year.

The company said that the increase was supported by strong sales of its new chicken sandwich as well as promotions of the “famous order” BTS meal, which is a collaboration with South Korean boy band BTS. The menu includes McNugget and special sauces.

The BTS meal itself had made a scene in the world. The reason is that after the release of this menu, fans of the K-pop boy band ordered the menu and flooded McDonald’s outlets around the world.

Indonesia itself had experienced BTS meal fever. This fever had created long queues at all McDonald’s outlets. In Jakarta, there were several photos of online motorcycle taxi drivers waiting in line waiting for the menu orders.

This move prompted the police to take firm steps. It is known that several McDonald’s outlets had to be sealed because the queues had caused crowds to violate Covid-19 protocols.

Meanwhile, not only in restaurants, the food packaging was sold on several platforms e-commerce in order to target BTS fans who haven’t gotten the menu yet. Unmitigated, the price of BTS meal packs is sold up to millions of rupiah.
