Microsoft has been one of the companies that has grown the most in 2020, showing that companies can survive in the worst situations, if they have the best technological tools. In Spain, the multinational has strengthened its position as a leader in business productivity in the last 12 months, thanks to products such as Office 365 and the increasingly popular Microsoft Teams. This has also been the great year of entry for Azure in our country, with companies of all sizes and sectors betting on the public cloud of Redmond and its associated capabilities in fields such as AI, IoT, hybrid cloud or Big Data.
In this work, Pilar López Álvarez, President of Microsoft Spain since July 2015, she has played a fundamental role and that we wanted to recognize by granting her our MC 2020 Award in the category Directive of the year. With a degree in Business Management and Administration, with a specialization in Finance, from ICADE, Pilar López has developed a large part of her professional career at Telefónica, a company she joined in 1999. Previously, she held different management positions at JP Morgan in Madrid, London and New York.
During her time at Telefónica, Pilar López carried out her work in the financial and business strategy areas in Europe and Latin America, holding the positions of Financial Controller at Telefónica Móviles, Director of Strategy at Telefónica de España, Chief Financial Officer of O2 in London and Chief Financial Officer of Telefónica Europe in Madrid.
Pilar López is an independent director of Inditex, a Spanish multinational textile manufacturing and distribution group. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the ONCE Foundation and of the Junior Achievement Foundation, as well as a counselor of the Association for the Progress of Management (APD) and a member of the Governing Board of the United States Chamber of Commerce in Spain and of the Advisory Council from the ESIC business school. In addition, he is a member of the advisory board of the Digital Future Society Think Tank.
During her time at Telefónica, Pilar López was a Director of Telefónica Czech Republic AS, Vice President of the Board of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG, and a member of the Board of Tuenti Technologies. She has also been a director and non-executive Director of Ferguson Plc (formerly Wolseley Plc), the world’s largest distributor of building materials.
