DUBAI, 16th July, 2023 (WAM) — Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has joined the UAE delegation to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which runs from July 10-19 at the UN headquarters in New York.
Established in 2012, the High-Level Political Forum is the central UN platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. Under the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”, the Forum will hold in-depth discussions addressing a number of SDGs, namely clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities and partnerships for the goals.
The MBRGI delegation, led by MBRGI CEO, Dr. Abdelkarim Sultan AlOlama, with the participation of Advisor to Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and Secretary General of The Digital School, Dr. Walid Al Ali, conducted a series bilateral meetings with major international institutions, including the World Economic Forum, UNDP, UNEP, UN Women, UNCDF, Gallup and the Public Policy Lab.
During the meetings, the delegation discussed ways to strengthen mutual collaboration, strategic partnerships and knowledge sharing, in line with MBRGI’s mission in humanitarian and development efforts, and its commitment to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The MBRGI delegation also met Amna Binzaal Almheiri, UAE Consul General in New York, US Senator Kevin Thomas and New York Mayor Eric Adams.
Support for disadvantaged populations:
During an event entitled “UAE Partnership for Global Development: Building Towards the 2030 Agenda”, the MBRGI delegation presented some sustainable initiatives and projects implemented by MBRGI in dozens of countries around the world, aimed at addressing key humanitarian, social and development challenges, improving education in marginalized communities and fighting poverty and disease, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, and promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence.

Dr. Al Olama pointed out that the MBRGI spent a total of AED 1.4 billion on various projects and initiatives implemented in 2022, benefiting 102 million people in 100 countries. These initiatives cover the five pillars of the MBRGI, namely humanitarian aid and relief, health care and the fight against disease, dissemination of education and knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship. and community empowerment.
