Fourth case of suspected highly pathogenic avian influenza this season at a poultry farm in Izumi City, Kagoshima[12/01 19:15]
A suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza infection has been confirmed at a poultry farm in Takaono-cho, Izumi City. This is the fourth case this season at a poultry farm in Kagoshima Prefecture and the highest number of cases in a single season.
(Governor Koichi Shiota) “I want to take all possible measures with the highest level of awareness of epidemic prevention.”
According to the prefecture, around 9:00 on the 1st, a poultry farm in Takaono-cho, Izumi City reported that “chickens had died together,” and 11 out of 13 chickens tested positive in a simple test.
This is the fourth case of suspected highly pathogenic avian influenza confirmed at a poultry farm in the prefecture this season.
The prefecture had stepped up its response, including killing 470,000 chickens at the third poultry farm, but this time a suspected case was confirmed at a poultry farm 1.6 kilometers away.
(Kazuhiro Tanaka, director of the prefectural cattle breeding division) “There is a loophole for the virus. I want you to thoroughly disinfect the chicken coops.”
In the fourth case, about 120,000 laying hens are raised, and if the genetic test is positive, in addition to quarantine measures such as culling, the movement of hens and eggs will be limited.
The results of the genetic test should be known on the morning of the 2nd.
