Mbappé case, Swedish prosecutor closes rape investigation: “Insufficient evidence”

The rape investigation against Kylian Mbappé is closed due to lack of sufficient evidence. The Swedish prosecutor’s office investigating the case therefore decided not to proceed beyond the preliminary investigations. “I consider that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the investigation, which is therefore closed,” the prosecutor in charge of the case, Marina Chirakova, said in a statement. The investigation could be reopened in the future only in light of new facts. The Real Madrid player was never heard from on the case. “We have adopted the usual investigative measures, including carrying out a series of interviews, Chirakova added, “in investigations into sexual violence it is customary to also carry out technical investigations and we did so in this case too.”

Mbappé was reported by a woman he met on Thursday 10 October in Stockholm. The footballer was with a group of friends in the Swedish capital: here he would have spent the night between a restaurant, a disco and a hotel in the center where, according to the woman, the violence would have taken place. The France captain would depart from Bromma airport the following day. Mbappé immediately branded his involvement in the investigation as “fake news”: according to him, it was a campaign aimed at destroying his image in the context of the legal dispute with PSG.
