The information that Mazda is preparing for the premiere of the “troika” with the “turbo four” appeared in the newsletters for dealers earlier this month. It was reported that the most powerful hatchbacks and sedans will be equipped with all-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic.
Most likely, the Mazda3 will receive a gasoline 2.5-liter turbo engine of the Skyactiv-G line, familiar from the “older” models Mazda6, CX-5 and CX-9. You can count on the power of 230-250 horsepower depending on the degree of forcing and a torque of at least 420 Nm. Thus, the turbo version of the Mazda3 will be noticeably more powerful than the options with gasoline “aspirated” – currently the most productive “troika” produces 188 horsepower.
However, expanding the range of engines does not mean a revival of the MPS line – Mazda will certainly refrain from installing a sports suspension, an aggressive body kit and will not offer a combination of a turbo engine and “mechanics”. Although the characteristics of the Mazda3 with a 2.5 turbo engine will be close to the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Hyundai i30 N, the positioning of the models will be different.
