Mazda Stands Firm on Diesel Engines Despite Industry Trends

The Japanese car manufacturer Mazda is not going to abandon the use of diesel engines in its cars just yet, despite the general trend in the automotive industry to abandon them. Diesel sales have fallen inexorably over the past few years, but we can at least partially explain this by the fact that diesels are simply being offered less often.

“If customers want diesel, we will offer it to them as long as we can effectively meet the regulations on harmful emissions. As long as we can, we want to offer diesels in the meantime,” says Mazda CX-90 project manager Mitsuru Vakiie in an interview CarExpert. He admits that the demand for diesel is decreasing, but it is still relevant in Japan, Australia, and also in Europe, so Mazda is ready to provide it to its customers.

Mazda somewhat surprised the auto industry last year by introducing two new six-cylinder internal combustion engines. One of them is a 3.3-liter turbodiesel, which in today’s era of ecology and climate protection is considered the embodiment of Satan. In Europe, this engine is available in the CX-60 crossover and develops 251 horsepower. Elsewhere in the world, this engine also develops more power. For example, the CX-90 marketed in the US with this same engine develops 340 horsepower.
