The electric Mazda MX-30 is a global model that the brand sells all over the world. In addition to Europe and her native Japan, she also tried her luck in the USA, specifically in California, which has been considered a paradise for electric cars for some time now. It offered the battery-powered crossover for less than two years and now announces its withdrawal from the market. Reason? Only 571 units sold.
Mazda says that it also wanted to impress the driving characteristics that are typical for the brand on the electric car. That’s why she installed a small 35.5kWh battery inside, with which, according to the WLTP methodology, the car can travel only 200 kilometers on a single charge. According to the stricter American EPA methodology, it is even 161 kilometers, i.e. the least of all electric cars sold there in the 2023 model year.

The so-called suicide door is also a specialty of the Mazda MX-30.
Despite this, she did not compromise on the price. The Mazda MX-30 cost at least 34,110 dollars overseas, which translates to just over 740,000 CZK. Just for comparison – the Tesla Model 3 in the USA starts at about 715,000 crowns and declares a range of 535 km. In the case of Mazda, however, it is still significantly less than in the Czech market, where a car with one 145-horsepower electric motor starts at 949,000 CZK, and in higher equipment it easily exceeds a million.
Given the above, the end of Mazda’s only electric car in the US is not too much of a surprise. In a terse official statement, the brand says that it will now focus its electrified efforts on hybrids and plug-in hybrids, i.e. cars where the internal combustion engine still plays a role.

“Our current electrification efforts in the US are now focused on large plug-in hybrids such as the CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV. In the same way, we will expand the CX-50 Hybrid model line,” says the representative of the car company there, saying that it wants to satisfy the “specific needs of the American market” in this way.
While in the USA the MX-30 with less than six hundred registrations is finally ending, in Europe its sales are to be kicked up by a brand new plug-in hybrid drive with Wankel. In our country, the same equipment costs the same as a pure electric car, but the smaller 17.8kWh battery is complemented by a 50 liter petrol tank. We are talking about a compromise at least until 2028, when we expect the premiere of new electric cars with significantly better parameters.
