Mazatlán finally breathed a sigh of relief. A poor start in the Liga MX Femenil had blinded them from their path to victory. That story, however, was not repeated in Aguascalientes. Necaxa was the first prey of the Cañoneras, who today won 2-1.
In this way, the Mazatlan team achieved its first three points. The Centellas, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive defeat.
If there was one thing Necaxa was lacking at the start of the season, it was a lack of goals.
They had failed to score in their last two games.
Allison Veloz, however, broke this streak with a solid header. Veloz’s goal was only Necaxa’s second of the tournament.
The improvement of the Centellas was noticeable compared to the previous days in which they had received eight goals. Without the pressure of having to face Monterrey or América, clubs that had shaken the Necaxa team in recent weeks, the locals showed a different attitude in the first half. However, they returned to that irregularity that has haunted them and allowed Mazatlán to take control of the match. With a totally different dynamic from the first 45 minutes, the visitors showed their best version in the second half.
Enekia Lunyamila started the uprising at the Estadio Victoria. The African found the net after a through ball and an initial action in which she had to dribble past the goalkeeper, before finally finishing with her left foot with the goal open.
Without any complacency, the Mazatlan team continued to insist. The reward came in what could possibly become one of the best goals of the week. In a foul that was called just a few meters in front of the halfway line, Gabriela Álvarez was the heroine. She hit a cannon shot from more than 40 meters that was unstoppable for the Spanish Marina Viñoly. It was a projectile that fell precisely in the right corner that the goalkeeper was watching.
Atlas, meanwhile, took advantage of a couple of errors by Tijuana to secure its second win of the campaign. The score ended 3-1.
The Border team was not an easy opponent; they had just had three wins. But a mistake at the beginning of the match and another at the end broke this streak.
The lack of communication between goalkeeper Daniela Solera and one of the defenders gave Brenda Cerén the opportunity to squeeze a loose ball that looked like it could be cleared. However, the Atlista forward took advantage of the Tijuana team’s lack of concentration to open the scoring.
Although Tijuana reduced the lead in the second half and dominated for many periods, Atlas ruined the match in the final moments (92′ and 94′).
Maria Salas benefited from another communication failure, while Maria Perez, seconds later, sealed the victory with a long-range shot.
