At exactly 7 p.m., the new mayor Vasil Terziev lit the festive lights and Christmas tree of Sofia. It is located on the new pedestrian area of the capital – the square around the temple-monument “St. Alexander Nevsky”.
The most emblematic Sofia landmark shined with new architectural lighting, which highlights the cultural heritage, and throughout December on the square from “G. S. Rakovski” around the churches “Sveta Sofia” and “St. Alexander Nevsky”. There will be on the square holiday concerts, decorations and various activities for the citizens and guests of the city, reported the capital municipality. “From today, our homes radiate a special glow of comfort, warmth, of opportunities, of peace and hope”, stated Vasil Terziev.
“My dream has always been not only our home, but also for our city to be a place that makes us dream not only at Christmas. That is why I am extremely happy that we are here together today. You deserve the city to shine, because each one of us shines”, said the mayor of Sofia.
Throughout the holiday month, the square will be transformed with temporary design by urban activists and artists. The goal is to test options for the long-term habitation of this landmark area of the capital. In the spirit of the message of the “The Light in You” initiative, holiday lights, a 10-meter Christmas tree, an Alley of Talents, a Christmas bazaar for food, drinks and creative products are planned. The campaign also includes a Christmas concert on December 20 with the participation of the Mixed Choir of the Patriarchal Cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky”, and the culmination is the traditional big concert to welcome the New Year, organized by the Metropolitan Municipality.
One of the first orders of the new mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev after taking office earlier this month was tothe rostra around the temple-monument “St. Alexander Nevsky” should be freed from parking spaces.
