Mayor Van den Bos departs from Urk, nominated in Goes

The mayor of Urk, Cees van den Bos, has been nominated as mayor of Goes. Van den Bos calls it an honor and says he is very motivated to get started and wants to get to know the residents quickly.

Van den Bos started in Urk in October 2020. Due to corona, his appointment was in a small circle, without festivities. Van den Bos’s departure is premature because a mayor is appointed to a municipality for six years.

Van den Bos was also absent for several months due to pneumonia.

‘Decisive and empathetic’
The municipal council in Goes chose Van den Bos because he is decisive, empathetic and analytically strong. He is also said to have a pleasant interaction with people and a good sense of humor.

“We see him as an enthusiastic and committed director who wants to act as a citizen of all Goesen residents,” says the chairman of the confidential committee.

Back to Zeeland
Van den Bos returns to Zeeland with his appointment in Goes. There he was an alderman in Schouwen-Duivenland from 2014 to 2020 on behalf of the SGP. After his aldermanship he left for Urk.

Van den Bos was the first SGP mayor of Urk. He succeeded Pieter van Maaren, who became mayor of Zaltbommel in 2020. When Van den Bos was appointed, he was warned several times about the ‘self-willedness’ of the Urk.

When does Van den Bos leave?
The 43-year-old mayor is expected to be appointed in Goes on February 1, 2024. The nomination must still be approved by the Minister of the Interior.
