Van de Pol announced her decision in a letter to the municipal council. In it, the VVD politician writes: “To my great sadness, I will not become your mayor. My personal situation, my health, does not enable me to give the 100 percent that the mayoralty needs. And you deserve a mayor who has been there from day one.”

Under fire in Terschelling
Van de Pol would become mayor of Castricum after a hasty departure from Terschelling. She was also mayor there, but was under fire because relations between her and the municipal council had been disrupted.
When Van de Pol received a few calls in mid-December, during an extra council meeting about her position on Terschelling, it turned out that she had been nominated to work in Castricum. The council then asked for her immediate departure.
Now that Van de Pol has indicated that she will not work as mayor in Castricum, the council will consult with the King’s Commissioner about how to proceed.
