Jakarta –
The Mayor of Balikpapan, Rahmad Mas’ud, denied Muhaimin Iskandar’s statement or Cak Imin about the city of Balikpapan having difficulty with electricity and access to clean water and damaged roads in the vice presidential debate some time ago. Rahmad said Cak Imin was wrong.
“That’s wrong data, wrong. Before conveying it, (Cak Imin) should have looked at the data first. That’s why he said it was incorrect. The condition of Balikpapan City as a supporter of the State Capital (IKN) is very good,” said Rahmad in Balikpapan as reported by Antara, Monday (25/12/2023).
Rahmad said that the electricity supply in Balikpapan City is very sufficient and power outages rarely occur. If there is a power outage, he said, it occurs due to maintenance or non-technical problems.

The electricity supply in Balikpapan City is connected to the East Kalimantan Main Generating Unit (UIP KLT), which is an interconnected electricity network of three provinces, namely East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.
UIP KLT has a total power of 2,369 megawatts, while the usage load reaches 1,545 megawatts. Rahmad said Balikpapan City still has excess power of up to 800 megawatts.
Meanwhile, regarding access to clean water, Rahmad explained that Balikpapan’s water needs are supplied from two reservoirs, namely the Manggar Reservoir with a normal supply of 1,100 liters per second, and the Order Dam with a normal production of 200 liters per second.
Balikpapan is also preparing the Aji Raden Embung to provide clean water for the people of Balikpapan City. The reservoir is planned to have a normal production of 150 liters per second and will be integrated with the Order Dam.
Rahmad said that the increase in water demand in Balikpapan was the impact of the development of the Indonesian Capital City ahead of the ceremony on August 17 2024. However, from the construction of the IKN, Rahmad said that the Oil City would receive additional water supplies from the Sepaku Semoi Dam of up to 500 liters per second.
“For clean water, we continue to strive to ensure that Balikpapan City becomes a city that is very livable,” he said.
Rahmad added that Balikpapan City is also improving as a supporting city for IKN, such as handling floods and improving infrastructure.
Previously, vice presidential candidate number 1 Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) expressed his pity for three cities in Kalimantan, namely Balikpapan, Pontianak and Banjarmasin. Cak Imin, in the vice presidential debate, said that the three cities did not receive enough attention and there was inequality in the midst of IKN development in East Kalimantan.
“We don’t agree or disagree with IKN, the most important thing is the priority of equality and justice so that cities are built so that clean water facilities are realized. Poor Balikpapan, poor Banjarmasin, poor Pontianak, because of what? We can turn these cities into “It’s better, because of what? The fiscal that we prepare is equalized in each city,” said Cak Imin in the debate.
The vice presidential debate on Friday (22/12) evening carried the themes of popular and digital economy, finance, investment, taxes, trade, APBN/APBD management, infrastructure and urban success.
