Mayor prohibits recording of film about IRA attack Roermond | Inland

The recordings on the Market were to take place next week and last four days. About seventy people are said to be involved in these recordings. The production company unsuccessfully instituted summary proceedings against the municipality on Friday.

The mayor fears that too many people are involved in the recordings and that is in violation of the corona rules. Moreover, she is afraid that the recordings will attract a lot of people to the Market, and she wants to avoid that too.

In May 1990, an IRA murder squad attacked four Australian tourists on the Markt in Roermond. Two tourists were killed. The IRA members thought they were shooting a group of Englishmen because the four were driving a car with British registration.

The film is made by production company Pupkin from Amsterdam. The intention is that the four-part series under the name ‘The Spectacular’ will be broadcast by the VPRO next year. Pupkin’s Facebook page explains the plot of the series: “A conspiracy thriller about the international hunt for the IRA in the late 1980s. Inspired by a true story about a special team of detectives who are hunting an invisible terror cell that wants to carry out an attack in the Netherlands. ”

According to Dagblad de Limburger, the Amsterdam production company is now looking for a location elsewhere in the country, because the recordings cannot be postponed. There are many Irish actors who have to return home soon.
