Pierre Jouvet, mayor of Saint-Vallier in Drome and number 3 on the socialist list in the European elections, chose to march in Saint-Etienne with Raphaël Glucksmann for May 1. They were attacked by a group of about fifty people who kicked them and splashed paint on them. Pierre Jouvet denies: “some ultra violent groups” to launch projectiles, in particular “with paint, trying to push us around. “
In support of Casino staff
Pierre Jouvet specifies: “We were in Saint-Etienne for May 1 because the Casino groupwhich is currently laying off hundreds of workers, on its historic site in the town closed yesterday. And we were there to give our support this Workers’ Day to the women and men who are fighting to find work, to reclassify them. And so Labor Day and May 1 come first.”
“Incredibly Violent Hooded Men”
It was the police who advised the candidates to leave the show to avoid overcrowding. The Drômois despise this violence and condemn it “those who play with fire in this countrywhich divides, which constantly creates tension every day and which in fact rejects democratic debate. Selected official details: “It was hooded, ultra violent people. There were flags, especially the flags of the far-right political parties.. But Pierre Jouvet specifies: “after that, we don’t know who these people are, but anyway, they were people who were there to fight and they were violent people who were organized for that, as you can see us unfortunately too often in shows.”

What treatment is done?
The candidate in third position on the socialist list for the European elections is not to accuse anyone in particular: “It was Flags of Palestineit was banners of the young communistsit was flags of France Insoumise. But I don’t know who is behind these flags. I don’t know how it is all organized. what treatment will be done.” One certainty however for the Drômois, it was not “No real demands, just people there to cause violence and to radicalize the debate“.
In the campaign, Pierre Jouvet does not fail to point out that he was there “protection of workers and workers”. He remembers : “while I was in Saint-Etienne, I was thinking about those women and men who have been unemployed since last night (Tuesday April 30) and who we are protecting. the political debate has no place and is completely impossible.
Raphaël Glucksmann and Pierre Jouvet hit the road towards Villeurbanne where they plan to hold a meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
