A video showing the mayor of the town of Vita (Ávila) singing songs during the last San Bartol festivities has raised a political controversy with accusations of apologia of the “culture of rape”. The Government has announced that it will study measures against Antonio Martin Hernandezelected mayor on the PP list, while PSOE and Podemos have demanded that Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s party expel him.
The PP has already announced that it has expelled him from the Vita municipal group, but has assured that Martín is not a member.
The controversy began this past weekend when a video was spread on social media in which the mayor of this town of 87 inhabitants can be seen singing the following on stage: “I found a little girl alone in the forest, I took her by the hand and took her to my bed. I pulled up her skirt and pulled down her panties.” And after encouraging an audience that he criticized for being “too boring,” the song continues: “I threw her out the first caliqueño. I threw her out the second caliqueño. In the third there was no milk left.”
He apologizes but does not resign
The mayor, for his part, He has apologized but has refused to resign “for the moment”In a video published by La Sexta and picked up by Europa Press, lasting less than a minute, Martín appears in the foreground and apologizes “if anyone has been offended.”
In this video he claims that this song was “traditionally sung during Vita’s festivities” and that at no point in singing it was he trying to “offend anyone.”
Government and Podemos ask the PP to “immediately expel” them from the party
In light of what happened, the PSOE has criticized through a statement on the social network X what they describe as “sickening” the video of the ‘popular’ mayor and They have demanded that the PP immediately expel them from the party“The apology of paedophilia is not freedom of expression. We hope that Mr Feijóo will give the order without wasting a minute,” said Pedro Sánchez’s party in a statement.
The second vice-president and Minister of Labour and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, has called for the “resignation” of the mayor for singing a song saying “atrocities against girls and women”. “A PP mayor who sees fit to get up on stage to say atrocities against girls and women does not represent our country. It cannot be repeated. Expulsion is not enough, he must resign”Díaz concluded in a message on the same social network.
On the same platform, the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, announced on Monday that his ministry will study “all possible measures” against the mayor of the town of Vita (Ávila), from the Popular Party, for advocating “rape culture” and “violence against children”. She did so in a message reposted by the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, who considers the mayor’s expulsion to be insufficient and calls for his resignation.
Belarra has spoken in similar terms, asking Feijóo, specifically mentioning him in her post, to expel him “immediately”. “It made me want to vomit and it made my hair stand on end. This is rape culture and it cannot be tolerated,” she added. In this sense, the secretary of organisation and spokesperson for Podemos, Pablo Fernández, has considered it “intolerable that public representatives have this type of behaviour” while speaking of “apology for paedophilia and rape”.
For her part, the socialist deputy for León and former secretary of Equality in the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE has also spoken out on X about what she claims is “apology for paedophilia”, which is why she has refused to share the video. “I sincerely hope that the Popular Party will remove it tomorrow at the latest. It is unacceptable and incompatible with the slightest notion of decency,” she said.
