The Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka has officially paired up with Prabowo Subianto as a duet for the candidate pair (bapaslon) participants 2024 presidential election.
The candidate pairs promoted by the Advanced Indonesia Coalition registered with the General Election Commission (KPU) RI, Wednesday (25/10) afternoon.
Gibran is running to become Mayor in the 2020 Regional Election from PDIP. Gibran now has to face PDIP – the party that made his name and that of his father, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) – which registered the candidate pair Ganjar Pranowo – Mahfud MD with the KPU last week.
Even though they have different directions, the Chair of the Solo PDIP DPC, FX Hadi Rudyatmo, confirmed that his party would not take an opposition stance in the city of Solo.
“Opposition what’s up (Opposition to what)? Sing (the) people’s loss if they are in opposition. There is still Mr. Deputy (PDIP cadre) too. No problem,” he said when met at his residence in Solo, yesterday.
Furthermore, Rudy said that his party still fully supports the Solo City Government (Pemkot) programs that Gibran has launched. The PDIP faction now occupies the majority of seats in the Solo City DPRD.
“You can’t interfere with government programs. Even though I have 30 of the 45 DPRD seats, whatever has to be done, do it. It can’t be an obstacle,” said Rudy.
Rudy also said that his relationship with President Jokowi and his family remains good. He considers the former Mayor of Solo to be an old friend.
“My friendship with Pak Jokowi and his family is friendship, there are no problems. But when it comes to organizations, we are on our own,” said he, who was Mayor of Solo before Gibran.
