The mayor of Sidon, Dr. Hazem Khader Badie, announced in a statement that he “initiated a series of contacts and preparations in order to establish a joint operations room in the municipality of Sidon, in order to confront any possible humanitarian, social and health repercussions resulting from the confrontations witnessed in southern Lebanon with the Israeli occupation, and the threats it is making in this field.

Dr. Badie visited the civil defense headquarters in the city (after his previous visit to the Sidon municipal fire brigade station last week), and was briefed by its president, Muhammad Mezher, on its readiness and the status of the civil defense mechanisms that are operating and those that need maintenance, in addition to the currently available equipment and the necessary needs for emergency situations.

Badie pointed out, “The Sidon Municipality will allocate a civil defense center in the municipality building to facilitate the work of its teams.”

The mayor of Sidon is scheduled to meet the day after tomorrow, Thursday, with civil associations, rescue and ambulance teams in the city, and agencies concerned with emergency situations, in order to coordinate efforts to establish an operations room in the municipality and its working mechanism in emergency cases, communicate with official, civil and social departments, and combine efforts in order to confront… All possibilities and remain fully prepared.”
