SAN ANTONIO, Texas.- While the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, eliminates the mandatory use of masks and opens the state to 100%, the mayor of San Antonio, Ron Nirenberg, seeks that the population join his efforts against covid-19 and use the mask voluntarily.

“Opening everything 100% and at the same time rejecting our state’s mask mandate is a huge mistake. Please join me in continuing to wear a mask,” said Nirenberg, who last week had commented on his rejection of the possibility that the first president of the state will eliminate the executive order.

“Covid-19 is still widespread in our community and infects too many vulnerable residents. We are not out of the woods yet,” the mayor said.
–
Over the weekend, both he and Bexar County Judge Nelso Wolff had jointly sent Abbott a letter to reconsider this possibility.
–
They told him that science should guide decision-making in the state. “Let science guide us and do our job of keeping Texas healthy and prosperous,” both local leaders wrote.

The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 43,909 residents of the state while 2,660,791 have been infected, according to data from the Texas Department of Health.
