Mayor of New York Eric Adams Allows Call to Prayer Without Permit: Find Out Why

New York

Mayor of New York in United States of America (AS), Eric Adamspermit call to prayer to be called freely by local mosques without special permission as before. However, the latest provisions will only apply during Friday prayers and during the holy month of Ramadan. What is the reason?

As reported Associated Press and CNNFriday (1/9/2023), Adams in his statement on Tuesday (29/8) local time said that the latest regulation should foster a spirit of inclusivity.

Under the new rules, Adams stated that local mosques in New York City would not need special permission to call the call to prayer every Friday or at sunset, at Maghrib, during the holy month of Ramadan.

The New York City Police Department’s public affairs bureau, Adams said, will work closely with local mosque managers to communicate the latest regulations and ensure that the devices used to broadcast the call to prayer are set to the appropriate decibel level.

Houses of worship in New York City can deliver public broadcasts with a maximum noise level of 10 decibels.

“For too long, there has been a feeling that our society is not allowed to call the call to prayer,” Adams said in a statement.

“Today, we cut the red tape and state clearly that mosques and houses of worship are free to call the call to prayer on Fridays and during Ramadan without requiring a permit,” he stressed.

“You are free to live your faith in New York City,” Adams said.
