The mayor of New York considers it unlikely that the pursuit of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle really lasted two hours. Eric Adams does condemn the action of the paparazzi photographers. They chased the prince and his wife on Tuesday night as they drove through the streets of New York.
According to Adams, it is “unlikely” that the action lasted two hours. “Because a ten-minute chase would be quite a lot in a busy city like New York,” he said on Wednesday press conference.
The taxi driver who transported Harry and Meghan also said that “it was a bit exaggerated by the British prince and his wife. New York is the safest place to be. There are police stations everywhere and there are officers on every street corner , so there’s no reason to be afraid in New York.” The driver himself said he had not been afraid during the ride.
The mayor thinks it is “reckless and irresponsible” that paparazzi have started chasing after Prince Harry and his wife. Markle’s mother Doria Ragland was also in the car.
There were several near collisions during the chase. Adams: “Obviously the paparazzi want to get the perfect shot. But public safety should always come first.”
Adams also cited Princess Diana’s death. Prince Harry’s mother was killed in 1997 after being chased by paparazzi. “I think everyone remembers how their mother died. It would be terrible to lose an innocent bystander. Or if something happened to the couple.”
