11 PEOPLE ARRESTED
23 suspects, including Menemen Mayor Serdar Aksoy and his assistants, who were detained within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Menemen Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, have completed their procedures at the prosecutor’s office. Three of the suspects who were taken into custody for “embezzlement” and “extortion” were released after the prosecution’s interrogation, while 2 suspects were released on the condition of judicial control.
Eighteen people, including Menemen Mayor Serday Aksoy, were referred to Menemen Criminal Judge’s Office for arrest by Menemen Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Following the statements taken at the Menemen Magistrate’s Office, 11 people, including Menemen Mayor Serday Aksoy, were arrested. Nine suspects were released on condition of judicial control. The names arrested are: Menemen Mayor Serdar Aksoy, Deputy Mayor Mehmet Cin, Site Manager Kenan Yaşatürk, Purchasing Manager Teoman Tuna, Deputy Director of Science, Gazi Koşum, Accounting Manager Nagihan Karaca, İYİ Party Karabağlar and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Tarkan Fikret Çalık, Mustafa İlhan, Gamze Yıldız, Gökhan Uzun, Mustafa Çama.

27 suspects, including Mayor Serdar Aksoy, among the 29 suspects who were detained within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Menemen Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into allegations of “embezzlement, extortion, abuse of office and forgery of documents” were detained on 20 November.
WHAT HAPPENED?
An investigation was initiated upon the complaints against the Mayor of Menemen Serdar Aksoy, and 3 deputies sent to Izmir prepared a report about Aksoy. CHP Central Board of Directors unanimously referred Aksoy to the High Disciplinary Board on 16 November with a request for “final expulsion”. Aksoy announced on November 18 that he had resigned from his party and would continue his duty.
