NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has asked the residents of the metropolis not to travel over the coming months due to the coronavirus pandemic. “We have a real threat of a second wave here in New York and we are fighting against it, but we must not take it lightly,” said the Democratic politician at a press conference on Tuesday. “I hate to say that, but I urge all New Yorkers not to leave the state for the holidays.”
This could put yourself and your family in danger, de Blasio said. “There will be tough decisions to be made and everyone will make their own choice.” Anyone who absolutely has to travel should get tested and adhere to quarantine rules. During November and December, large numbers of Americans typically travel to their families for holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The state of New York and the metropolis of the same name on the US east coast had become the epicenter of the pandemic in the US in spring. In the meantime, the incidence of new infections has stabilized there, but has recently increased again slightly./cah/DP/he
