Mayor Halsema: ‘Enforcing 2G is very complicated’ | Inland

The 2G measure means that only vaccinated or cured corona patients with a QR code are admitted to certain public places. Compliance is primarily the responsibility of entrepreneurs or operators. The municipality must check whether the entrepreneurs do ask visitors for a QR code.

Scarcity among healthcare staff

“The measures rightly take into account the scarcity among healthcare staff. Because everyone realizes that people are getting exhausted. On the other hand, it is occasionally suggested that enforcement is an inexhaustible resource from which to tap. But that is of course not the case,” said Halsema, who underlined that due to the scarcity of any 2G measure, it is difficult to enforce. Halsema now sees ‘exhaustion’ and aggression on the street among the Amsterdam boas.

She already made a similar plea about the corona pass this autumn. Due to a lack of enforcement capacity, the municipality would only act in the event of excesses. The mayor would not consider catering establishments that let in 90 percent of visitors unchecked ‘excess’, she answered questions from Forum for Democracy. That statement led to a storm of criticism, also from the medical angle.

Remarkable interview

Halsema then gave a remarkable interview to the Volkskrant and mainly blamed the media for the fuss. “We enforce excesses and repeated violations,” Halsema said again this afternoon.

Last Friday Halsema closed a bar on the Nieuwmarkt where Wybren van Haga had recorded a video. Because there was still pouring after 17:00 and because the occasion had already committed several violations, the case had to be closed immediately for a week.

If unvaccinated people continue to turn away

In the television program Buitenhof, Halsema also made critical comments about a possible vaccination obligation on Sunday afternoon. She called for careful consideration of the impact. “If the effect is that unvaccinated people turn away further, the question is whether it works well.”
