Mayor Eric Adams announces the new head of the city’s Housing Department.
This is the vice mayor and former housing commissioner María Torres-Springerwho will now not only oversee the City’s Housing Authority NYCHA but also run the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, as well as the Office of Housing Recovery, among other functions.
His mission will be to preserve and improve NYCHA and achieve the mayor’s goal of creating 500,000 new homes for New Yorkers over the next decade.

This comes after Katz, the former Housing CEO, announced her resignation on May 24, just over a year after she was tasked with overseeing NYCHA, HPD, the New City Housing Development Corporation. York and the Mayor’s Office for Housing Recovery Operations, among others.
