Mayor Eric Adams Begins Latin American Tour to Understand Migrant Journey to the United States

Eric Adams, mayor of New York, began a tour of Latin America this week with which he aims to better understand the journey taken by migrants seeking to reach the United States.

His first stop was Mexico City, where on Wednesday night he attended the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe for a private visit and prayer before continuing his journey, as many migrants do before embarking on the risky path to the American dream. .

Adams addressed a brief message to the press, in which he declared that the objective of his trip is to “manage the expectations” of migrants heading to the United States. Additionally, he stated that he hoped to inform them that New York was “at capacity” after receiving around 120,000 asylum seekers over the last year.

His Latin American tour will continue in the city of Quito, where he will hold new meetings with Ecuadorian authorities and then head to Bogotá and, finally, to the Darién Gap, a dangerous stretch of the route that many migrants cross on their way to the United States.
