At the start of 2019, mayors and their deputies received the following gross monthly salaries:

In Paris, deputies to the mayor of Paris perceive € 6,251.74 gross per month if they combine their function with a vice-presidency of the Departmental Council and € 5,578.48 if they are assistants and advisers departmental. The deputy mayor of the borough receive € 1,543.70 gross per month, while the delegated district councilors receive € 250.07.

In other towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants, municipal councilors receive € 233.36 gross per month.

Optional allowances

The following may also receive allowances, on an optional basis and depending on the decisions of the Municipal Council in question:

– municipal councilors of municipalities with less than 100,000 inhabitants : the allowance must be included in an “envelope” made up of the total of the allowances likely to be allocated to the mayor and deputies in office. In this case, the councilors recover part of the money which the mayor and his deputies will have given up.

– municipal councilors who have received delegation from the mayor, without any demographic threshold condition: the allowance is also included in the “envelope” defined above.

– the municipal councilors who deputize for the mayor if the latter is absent, suspended, dismissed or prevented: in this case, the indemnity is that fixed for the mayor.
