A supermarket in the South Holland town of Vlaardingen has to close for at least three months. Mayor Wijbenga has immediately closed the shop in the center of the city, due to, among other things, tax evasion. Inspectors found in the supermarket almost 6000 cigarettes, 46 bottles of strong alcoholic drinks and 19 packets of hookah tobacco that were not subject to excise duty.
The store was checked because several reports of nuisance had come in. In addition to the duty-free products, a stolen passport and sixty Polish Viagra pills were also found. In addition, the supermarket turned out to be selling strong alcoholic drinks without a license.
Employees of, among others, the police, customs, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the municipality were present during the inspection. The drink, cigarettes, pills and tobacco were seized. The supermarket has also been fined for selling products that have expired. Which store it concerns, does the Township not published.
Hockey stick behind the counter
In addition to the now closed case, four other Vlaardingen supermarkets were checked. Everything was in order at two, but violations were also found in two other stores. Viagra pills were also found in one of the two stores. There was also a hockey stick behind the counter. This store got off with a written warning.
A third supermarket has been fined for smoking in the warehouse and for poor hygiene. The NVWA will soon check that store again. If the problems are not resolved by then, the case can still be closed.
