Mayor Adams and Chancellor Banks Release Action Plan to Address Potential Bus Strike Impact on NYC Families

Both the city’s mayor Eric Adams and public schools chancellor David Banks publish an action plan that would help families in the event of a possible strike by the Amalgamated Transit Union.

The potential strike could affect nearly 4,400 routes in five counties and nearly 80,000 students.

If the bus strike takes place, it could affect the opening of schools next week.

This mother of a family showed her discontent with that possibility.

Olga Vargas Mother of the family says: “If they are going to do that, they close the schools, period.”

And he doesn’t think the authorities can handle the complications of a strike.

“No, it is not ready, they should organize themselves a little better but not block traffic like that,” says Olga Vargas, mother of the family.

Mayor Adams said, “Let me be clear: New York City working families should not and do not have to worry about getting their children to school every day. This administration is here to help ensure that our children continue their education without interruption.”

Help options include providing emergency Metrocards to students and caregivers affected by the strike.

They will also reimburse families for the use of taxis, carpools, or private vehicles up to a maximum of $200 per day.

Antonio García thinks that a solution must be found as soon as possible.

“You have to see what solution the mayor is looking for because I’m seeing how things are being paralyzed and they are paying attention to other things,” he says.

City leaders will reportedly be mobilizing all resources, engaging partner agencies and making sure no effort is spared to address the challenge of ensuring students can attend school.

“It’s a bit difficult because now the school year is starting and a strong school start is important,” explains Kedar gangopadhyay, a resident of the area.

In addition, there will be two ways to alert students in the event of a strike, one would consist of notifications through calls, emails and text messages.

And the other when the morning bus service is affected or interrupted.

Authorities have said that they hope that a resolution can be reached with the drivers and thus avoid this strike from Manhattan.
