Mayor Aboutaleb: ‘Bomb threats on the evening of riots to distract the police’ Inland

The Rotterdam parties wonder how things could have gone so wrong after a corona protest against 2G policy. After riots broke out, officers felt compelled to fire shots at at least five people. The National Criminal Investigation Department is still investigating the police bullets and the actions of officers. The disturbances broke out on the Coolsingel. Officers were injured and possibly traumatized.

Aboutaleb pointed out that there are many unannounced demonstrations in the city and that they usually go off without a hitch. On Friday, he said, it became clear that things would be different when officers approached people and were attacked and help from the mobile unit was needed. “When it turned out that the help of the riot police was needed, two bomb threats also came in. This was intended to draw police capacity away from the center. We ignored it. It says something about the organized nature of that evening.”

Under the controversial 2G policy, an option that The Hague has on the table, people will only receive a corona ticket if they have been vaccinated or cured. A test is then no longer useful.
