Mayoo Indiran receives compensation from the state after a closed drug case – VG

PROFILE: Mayoo Indiran can be seen in several TV shows. Here he is from 2017.

The state believes that TV personality Mayoo Indiran (31) is entitled to just under 140,000 kroner in reparation and compensation after the police charged him with a serious drug offense, but later dropped the case.

– On the one hand, I am relieved, but at the same time I am also disappointed, Indiran says to VG about the compensation he has been awarded.

He is currently a participant in “Kompani Lauritzen” on TV2.

It was just before Christmas 2016 that the police arrested the former “Paradise Hotel” participant after charging him with the drug offense. He was detained for a month and a half before being released.

He had the charge against him for three years and eight months, until the police dropped the case against him in the position of evidence in 2020.

The State Civil Law Administration has now decided that the 31-year-old is entitled to NOK 139,705 after the police prosecution. The sum consists of two parts:

  • 77,505 kroner for lost salary while he was in custody.
  • NOK 62,200 in restitution for the time he was in custody and the time he was charged.

I a great interview with VG, which was done regardless of the compensation case, Indiran tells about how the custody went into his psyche.

Tried to compare with other celebrities

The reason why Indiran has mixed feelings is that he believes the State Civil Law Administration has not given him enough compensation.

Since the drug charge prevented Indiran from getting jobs in the entertainment industry, he and the lawyer demanded three million in lost revenue.

The civil law administration concludes that the TV personality has not presented sufficient documentation that it is probable that he would have had such large income from the TV industry.

– I do not have any contracts to present precisely because I have not got a job due to the accusation I had on me. But we have tried to compare with what other celebrities earn to justify my claim, says Indiran.

The fact that he now gets jobs in the entertainment industry again, emphasizes his demand, he believes.

Considering trial

Indiran tells VG that he will consider suing to get a larger compensation amount.

– I have to look a little at the financial, because it costs to take a case to court. But now that things are going better, I have better evidence that I should get more in compensation, so I have faith that I can win.

His lawyer, Inam Ali, tells VG that the case of Indiran raises questions of principle that need clarification.

– Among other things, assessment of lost future income for people in the entertainment industry, such as reality celebrities, actors and artists. In the period he has been charged, Mayoo has suffered a significant loss of income and we completely disagree that this part of the claim was rejected, Ali says to VG.

– It’s moving forward now

In their claim, Indiran and his lawyer also wrote that the three years and eight months the reality profile had to wait before the case against him was dropped was so long that it was a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The State Civil Law Administration does not agree with this, and justifies this, among other things, with the fact that there were several accused in the case in which the 31-year-old was charged.

– We disagree with that, the case for Mayoo was separated together with a few others, this case could and should have been decided much earlier. No one should have to wait for almost 4 years for a final decision in their criminal case, says lawyer Ali.

At the same time, Indiran himself emphasizes that he is now happy that the state has responded and given him some compensation, after he has been waiting for a response to the compensation claim for eight months.

– It is moving forward now, and I am happy about that. I hope I can start living normally again without worrying so much. It is very stressful to walk around thinking about the police, lawyers, the court and the law. I just want to finish all this and move on with life in general.

When Indiran first became known through “Paradise Hotel” in 2016, VGTV raffled off a date with him. At that time there was no shortage of suitors:
