“Mayass” gives Lebanese moments of joy having been crowned “America’s Got Talent” | various | DW Arabic Window on Celebrity Lives and Fun Events | DW
Lebanese dance group “Mayas” won first place on the talent show “America’s Got Talent” during its 17th season, awarding it a million dollar prize.
The band received the highest percentage of votes, amid an intense worldwide competition for the title, after the illustrious performances presented during its participation in the most famous American program in America and in the world.
The band performs a show that draws on oriental dance, but in a modern way with a combination of visual and sound effects, and includes 20 to 30 artists depending on the types of performances, and previously won first place in the “Arab Got Talent “in 2019.
The band was founded by Nadim Cherfan, and this is his second international participation after participating in “Britain’s Got Talent” (which is organized in Great Britain). It is made up of performers and dancers between 13 and 25 years old.
The band raised the slogan “Karmalek Ya Lebanon” in the final, and their performance embodied the cedar of Lebanon and also focused on the color white during the final performance confirming the messages of peace to Lebanon and the world.
This coronation comes in light of the very difficult economic and social conditions in Lebanon, which have greatly deteriorated in recent months, especially with regard to the shortage of gasoline, scarce supplies and high inflation rates.
Interim Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati congratulated the band on the victory and said in a tweet: “Once again, Lebanese creativity manifests itself with a wonderful performance by the Mayass Band in the United States of America, hoping that success is always associated with it. Congratulations on the victory and more brilliance. “
