May demos in Munich: use of batons in the protest march towards Zenettiplatz

Munich – The largest demonstration in Bavaria on Saturday fell completely out of line: Around 7,500 motorcyclists demonstrated in Nuremberg on May 1 against possible weekend driving bans.

The police were in Munich on Saturday Over 800 emergency services were present and attended meetings in the city area. A rally by the German Federation of Trade Unions took place at Königsplatz. According to the police, up to 700 participants attended the demonstration under the motto “Solidarity is the future”.

Demonstration train: use of pepper spray and batons

There was also a demo train with around 350 people from the cattle market in the direction of Zenettiplatz. According to the police, there were “isolated disruptions”: In addition to igniting pyrotechnics, emergency services were attacked with kicks and blows.

The police had to use pepper spray and batons in the course of this. Operations manager Michael Dibowski regretted in a press release on Saturday evening that “in a situation after an attack, our emergency services were forced to use immediate force”.
