The country will be on strike on Holy Wednesday with GSEE, ADEDY and PAME calling for rallies in the center of Athens.
The General Confederation of Greek Workers, with the slogan “Eight hours everywhere, rights everywhere, the fight continues” calls all workers, pensioners, the unemployed, to the 24-hour general strike, as well as to the Trade Unions’ Rally, at 11.00 in the morning in Klathmonos Square and at the rallies of the Labor Centers.
“For unions, May Day is a day of strike and not a public holiday. The GSEE does not “demand” from the respective governments to declare May 1st as a holiday, and in fact it is transferred and circulated” they state in their statement.
They call all workers, pensioners, the unemployed, to the 24-hour General Strike for Labor Day, Wednesday, May 1st, and to the trade union rally, at 11.00 am, in Klathmonos Square and to the rallies of the labor centers.
ADEDY “calls on public sector workers to actively participate in the strike and in the strike gatherings that will take place on Wednesday, May 1st across the country. The strike gathering of A.D.E.D.Y. in Athens it will take place at 11:00 a.m. in Korai Square”.
How will the means of public transport move?
Public transport workers will also take part in the strike actions that will take place on May Day, Holy Wednesday. Transport workers are demanding, among other things: Collective agreements with real wage increases, Recruitment of permanent staff to fill all vacant organizational positions, Repeal of all anti-labor provisions.
Metro – Electric – Tram
From 09:30 to 16:30 the metro and the electric train will operate during tomorrow’s Labor Day, as according to an announcement by STA.SY, the workers will stop work.
The Tram will operate from 09:00 to 21:00 due to the participation of workers’ unions in the strike mobilizations.
Especially for Metro
On Metro Line 1 (Piraeus – Kifissia) the last trains will depart:
– from Kifissia and Piraeus at 16:35,
– from Monastiraki to Kifissia at 16:51 and to Piraeus at 17:09,
– from Omonia to Kifissia at 16:54 and to Piraeus at 17:07,
– from Attica to Kifissia at 16:59 and to Piraeus at 17:02.
On Metro Lines 2 & 3: the last trains will depart:
– from Anthoupoli to Elliniko at 16:13,
– from Elliniko to Anthoupoli at 16:09,
– from Municipal Theater to Plakentias Town at 16:07, – from Plakentias Town to Municipal Theater at 16:09,
– from Municipal Theater to Airport at 14:31 and
– from Airport to Municipal Theater at 15:46.
Tram:
On Line 7 (KALAMAKI – HOLY TRINITY):
– the first train will depart from KALAMAKISTIS at 09:17 and the last at 19:41 and
– the first train will depart from AGIA TRIADA at 09:54 and the last at 20:19.
On Line 6 (SYNTAGMA – PIKRODAFNI):
– the first train will depart from PIKRODAFNI at 09:15 and the last at 19:23 and
– the first train will depart from SYNTAGMA at 10:05 and the last at 20:06.
Metro routes to and from the Airport will run normally between 09:30 – 16:30.
Buses – Trolley
Bus, trolley and tram workers will stop work from the start of the shift until 9am and from 9pm until the end of the shift.
According to the Workers’ Union, buses, trolleys and tram trains will operate from 9 am to 9 pm.
Trains – Suburban
The Panhellenic Federation of Railways and Fixed Track Vehicles unanimously decided to participate in the 24-hour pan-Hellenic strike.
Hellenic Train in its announcement informs the passenger public that, due to the strike mobilization announced by GSEE, for May Day, in which the Panhellenic Railway Federation (POS) also participates, on Wednesday, May 1, there will be suspensions and changes to routes across the network.
Itineraries that will be made with security personnel
Hellenic Train will run the following routes with security personnel:
– In the section Athens – Thessaloniki – Athens: 52, 53, 56 and 57
– In the section Larissa – Thessaloniki – Larissa: 1591, 1592, 2593, 2594, 1597 and 1598
– In the section Piraeus – Kiato – Piraeus: 1300, 1305, 1318, 1323, 1326 and 2301
– On the Piraeus – Airport – Piraeus section: 1206, 1207, 1222, 1223, 1230 and 1231
– On the section Athens – Chalkida – Athens: 1532, 1535, 1550, 1553, 2530 and 2533
– In the Kiato – Patra – Kiato section, the following bus routes will take place:
– From Patras C15 (14:25) and C23 (18:25)
– From Kiato C14 (16:05) and C24 (20:05)
The ships will also be tied up in the ports
Problems are also expected to arise at the exit of the Easter excursionists who have chosen to visit an island, as the ships will remain tied up in the country’s ports on Holy Wednesday, May 1, as the Panhellenic Maritime Federation has decided to participate in the pan-Hellenic 24-hour strike announced by GSEE.
The strike, which concerns all categories of ships nationwide, will begin at 00:01 in the early hours of Holy Wednesday 1/5 and will end at 24:00 of the same day.
The journalists are on strike on Tuesday and Wednesday
With the participation of journalists from all media, the May Day strike will take place on Holy Wednesday.
As mentioned in ESIEA’s announcement, on Holy Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 05.00 a.m. until 05.00 am on Holy Wednesday, May 1, 2024, journalists, technicians, administrators and photojournalists working in newspapers and magazines are on strike, while on Holy Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 05.00 a.m. until 05.00 am of M. Thursday, May 2, 2024, all journalists, technicians, administrators who work in all radio and television and online Mass Media, in the public and private sector, in ERT, in GSEE, in Municipal Radios and in Press Offices, of all journalists of the country.
