May 9 – two holidays, one of which is neglected – 2024-08-25 08:22:46

/ world today news/ Two days ago I made a comparison between the two holidays that we celebrate on May 9 – Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day. I noted that an awake and conscientious Europe will place a flower in front of the memory of the Liberators on May 9. He will sing the Holy War March first and only then can he listen to the Ode to Joy. That is historically correct… and humanly fair!

Bulgarian politicians obviously forget the past. Victory Day is maximally neglected. It doesn’t even fit in many media such as Terminal 3 and the NGO circle “Capital”, financed by the “America for Bulgaria” foundation, and if it finds a place – it is spitting and reviling the feat of the Red Army.

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva wrote on her Facebook profile:

Friends, Happy Europe Day!

Today reminds us that peace in Europe is only possible if we are united around our common values. Today, 67 years after Robert Schumann’s Declaration, his idea for a new form of European political cooperation, which would make war between the nations of our continent unthinkable, has clearly achieved its success.

Regardless of all the difficulties facing the modern development of the European Union, we can categorically state that the development of modern Europe is unthinkable without this form of integration. Therefore, today we must pay a well-deserved tribute to all the politicians in European history who, in the dark times after the Second World War, showed visionary thinking and imposed their ideas of unification. Without them and the leadership they have shown, the countries of the modern European Union would not have achieved the economic and social achievements that we often take for granted today.

I am confident that the future development of Europe will be good for its citizens only if we maintain this direction. And it is important to remember that unity in diversity is not a cliché or a lofty phrase, but the evolutionary achievement that has brought the Old Continent the longest period of peace in our history. A peace we must continue to preserve. A peace without which all other national goals would lose meaning.”

Another minister from the “Borisov 3” Cabinet Liliana Pavlova shared the following with her friends on the social network:

“Europe Day is a holiday highlighting the aspiration of the European peoples towards common democratic values and a fairer life for all.

Bulgaria is among the youngest members of the EU, but the European Union is not only our past and present, it is our future. For the ten years of membership, we have proven that our country is a worthy partner and a full participant in pan-European affairs.

Before all of us, united by the idea of unity and peace, is the question of finding the right direction for the future development of the European Union. It is more important than ever that unity in the Union is real, not just words, and that the speed at which we move forward is achievable for all Member States.

At the beginning of 2018, our country will assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU. We live in a complex and challenging environment, but I sincerely believe that we will be able to show that Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, which can contribute to a better Europe.

Happy holiday!”

The world is becoming an increasingly uncertain place. Values are crumbling in the West. States are collapsing in the East. People are dying everywhere. We don’t know what will happen in the next minute. It is high time for our politicians to learn to appreciate the gravity of given events. In politics, above all, there must be morality, guided by principles. The prime minister himself appeals to overcome the political ego, but the ministers show him the opposite. It is immoral and grossly degraded to ignore the victims of World War II. Let us show that we are part of a truly united Europe that is based on principles. A Europe that stands for cultural value, not a Europe that is a market for politics.

Today, forget about Victory Day, but let a particle of morality appear somewhere in your mind tomorrow. Today, forget about Victory Day, but secretly hope for actions before May 9, 1945. not to be repeated. And for this purpose we need to remember our history.

Happy Victory! Happy holiday, united Europe!

Victory Day is a holiday with tears in the eyes! Happy Holidays!
