1915 The world’s first Vezdekhod tank, built at the Russian-Baltic plant in Riga, was tested. The design of the vehicle provided for all the elements of a modern tank: a caterpillar mover, an armored hull and weapons located in a rotating turret. The tank developed a speed of up to 25 miles per hour in fairly deep sand. The designer of the tank is 23-year-old Alexander Aleksandrovich POROKHOVSHCHIKOV. The grandson of the designer – the famous actor Alexander Shalvovich Porohovshchikov – was outwardly very similar to his grandfather.
