Second day of the debate in the Plenary of the Parliament, of the articles and the whole of the draft law “Equality in civil marriage, amendment of the Civil Code and other provisions”, Wednesday, February 14, 2024. (GIORGOS KONTARINIS/EUROKINISSI)
It seems that Maximos Palace was particularly concerned about the “passions” that would be awakened by the long-awaited speech of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, which was directed directly against Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the marriage equality bill.
Apparently, Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ anxiety not to let Antonis Samaras appear as the shadow leader of the conservative faction led to a careful order to the MPs to… avoid the Plenary Chamber of the Parliament while the former prime minister was speaking.
Apparently the ND president’s office knew that Ant. Samaras intended to make a speech that would refer to a natural leader of the Greek people, and no one wanted to create the image of a mass audience, much less to have “blue” applause at parts of the speech.
The aim of the “order” to leave the room was to show that Antonis Samaras no longer has an audience and power. But is that the case?
